Nourish Your Way To Health & Happiness With Wild Caught Fish Eggs

For most of human history, we effortlessly consumed (like-supports-like nutrition) the things we needed for strength, health, and happiness. Like the fertile ground that we once walked upon, we were a natural extension of this earth. In the modern world, we unknowingly struggle to fulfill our nutritional needs in order to support and sustain a vibrant, disease-free life. We are now part of a world where our brain, heart, and reproductive health is ailing. The solution is to address the root cause with dietary, lifestyle, and behavioral choices while nourishing and supporting our bodies and brains with proven anthropological ways that are backed by modern science... this includes the use of Wild-Caught Fish Eggs.

Wild Caught Fish Eggs Summary

“We don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” — Native American Proverb

Our genome has evolved with the nourishment of like-supports-like nutrition dining since the beginning of time. Wild Caught Fish Eggs is a whole food and dietary supplement that provides 100% pure wild caught Hoki roe containing powerful building blocks and high amounts of DHA, Vitamins D, K2, and A, along with iodine, zinc, and choline. Based on the concept of "like supports like," Wild Caught Fish Eggs may nourish and support our own reproductive organs, brain, and overall health.

Not all fish eggs are the same. Look for the highest quality fish eggs... They should be wild caught, never farmed, and harvested from pristine and clean waters, such as the shores of New Zealand. If considering a supplement, look for one that is ultra-pure (without binders, fillers (or) flow agents) and look for the freeze-dried variety as these have been shown to optimally preserve nutritional factors, growth factors and co-factors.

Benefits of Eating Wild Caught Fish Eggs

Traditional peoples, Native Americans and early ancestral healers believed that eating the organs from a healthy animal would strengthen and support the health of the corresponding organ of the individual. For instance, the traditional way of treating a person with a weak heart was to feed the person the heart of a healthy animal. Similarly, eating the eggs of a healthy animal was known to support fertility, strength, and optimal overall health.

Wild Caught Fish Eggs... rich in DHA, support optimal neurocognitive function including creative and artistic expression.

For generations our shore-based dwelling ancestors consumed seafood, rich in DHA, which led to the rapid expansion of grey matter in the cerebral cortex, characterizing the modern human brain. The discovery of high-quality, easily digested nutrients from coastal seafood and inland freshwater sources provided our ancestors with a staple source of preformed docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). (Of course, smashing skulls and marrow bones was also on the menu, supporting the evolution of our intelligence...but harvesting seafood required less effort.)

Radioisotope labeling shows us that the late archaic humans (Neanderthals) sourced protein predominantly from the red meat of wolves, large felids and hyenas. There was no evidence of freshwater aquatic species or marine sources of protein in the bone collagen of the Neanderthal samples. In striking contrast, seafood consumption was a “staple” of the diet of the early modern humans (Mid-Upper Paleolithic period). Depending upon geographical region, freshwater or marine sources of protein constituted between 10-50% of the diet for the early modern humans. (2)

Interestingly, the exploitation of food from aquatic and marine sources coincided with a rise in the enrichment of material cultures, such as personal ornamentation, decoration of burials, pottery figurines and knotted textiles. Consumption of nutrient-dense seafood, such as fish roe, (and brain and bone marrow) led to the expansion of the grey matter and the development of language and tool making.

Wild Caught Fish Eggs... rich in Omega-3 can help to restore the balance of fatty acids in our diet.

Our ancestors consumed balanced amounts of Omega 3 and Omega 6. These dietary fats are represented equally in free-range wild animals. The modern diet consisting of grain-fed livestock, farmed fish, and plant oils provides an excessive amount of Omega-6 fatty acids. The overconsumption of Omega-6 has led to a gradual depletion of DHA (an Omega 3) from membrane phospholipids and corresponds with the rise of modern diseases, particularly heart disease, neurological disorders, and infertility. DHA is a unique nutrient that should be regularly consumed, in its whole food form, from wild-caught fish eggs and oily fish. In addition, a diet consisting of Grass Fed livestock and pastured poultry will provide meat and eggs with higher proportions of Omega 3.

DHA has been found to be a key nutrient to support neurodevelopment, neurocognition and neurodegenerative disorders. Many functional healthcare practitioners have been successfully using DHA supplementation for treating (and even preventing!) infertility, heart disease and neuropsychiatric disorders such as psychosis, depression, anxiety, etc.

Wild Caught Fish Eggs support fertility, pregnant women, and their growing babies too!

Nutrition giants such as Weston A. Price (Nutrition and Physical Degeneration) and Sally Fallon (Nourishing Traditions & Nourishing Baby) have extensively researched and written about the importance of nourishment before, during and after pregnancy. They discovered that traditional foods like Liver, Bone Marrow, Wild Caught Fish Eggs, Tallow and pastured egg yolks have always been a big part of our early ancestors' diets to produce well-formed, beautiful babies that grow up strong and with straight teeth.

Modern science even validates that normal embryonic development depends upon animal-sourced vitamin A for the correct expression of tissues in the differentiating cells—that is, for the transition from undifferentiated stem cells into differentiated cells such as heart cells, bone cells and brain cells. For this differentiation to occur, vitamin A (also known as the concertmaster) supplied by the diet must be available in adequate forms and adequate quantities (NOTE: ancestral health experts such as Chris Kresser and the Weston A Price Foundation recommend 20,000 IUs from animal sources).

As it relates to preconception, conception and/or post-conception nourishment, most of our functional healthcare practitioner accounts recommend starting with the fundamentals... that's Liver and Bone Marrow (I know, big surprise!). To be certain, my wife and I are very, very content with the size of our tribe (family), but if wife were to be blessed with yet another pregnancy, I have absolutely no doubt that Liver, Bone Marrow, Fish Eggs, Tallow and yolks will remain on the menu... in addition to our other staples. If you'd like to know exactly how my tribe and I live to support optimal health, go to our "About Us" page and read the entire page.

Hoki - The Blue Grenadier
Fish eggs from most any fish that are wild-caught and sourced from clean water will serve as the cake of strength and power that our ancestors cherished. Hoki roe is unsurpassed in terms of nutrient density, purity, and sustainability.

Hoki (Macruronus Novaezelandiae) is wild-caught from the pristine clean waters around New Zealand’s shores. Locally known for its sweet flavor and shiny blue scales, these fish have virtually no toxic pollutants such as mercury and other heavy metals. Hoki are sourced from one of the best-managed trawl fisheries in the world, certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the global gold standard for sustainability. Just like the specialized soldiers of the 17th century chosen for their throwing prowess and strength, our fish friends are named because they are strong survival creatures.

  • Based on the ancient ancestral wisdom that "like supports like," Consuming Wild-Caught Fish Eggs may support fertility and provide lifelong nourishment (upgraded memory and verbal skills) for growing children.
  •
  • Provides all the building blocks... bioactive and nutritionally intact - with the specific vitamins, minerals, and enzymes to support red blood cell formation, immune function, cardiovascular health
  • Consuming Wild-Caught Fish Eggs helps to restore the balance of essential fatty acids in the body, often displaced by an overabundance of Omega-6 in the modern diet.

Suggested Use (6 Capsules a Day)

Our Wild Caught Fish Eggs is a whole food dietary supplement that provides 100% pure wild-caught Hoki eggs. The suggested use of this supplement is to take 6 capsules per day (even though it technically is food) or as directed by a healthcare professional — for added support, the dose can be doubled. If consuming more than six capsules at once, the doses should be separated by at least three hours to improve tolerability.

Potential Issues (Detox Reaction)

Most customers tolerate our supplements without incident; however, approximately 5 to 10% of customers (usually with an autoimmune condition) may experience a detoxification reaction. Detoxification reactions go by many different names including healing reactions, healing crises, cleansing reactions (or) Herxheimer reactions with hallmark symptoms of nausea, headache, lethargy, dizziness and other flu-like symptoms. In this instance, detoxification reactions are generally an indication that detoxification pathways in the body are back online... cells suddenly have an opportunity to release an even greater than normal quantity of stored toxins, metabolic wastes, pathogens and unwanted material.

A detoxification reaction is more likely to occur when starting with the full suggested serving size of 6 capsules per day. If you know that you are sensitive to supplements and/or you have an autoimmune condition, you may wish to start slow when adding this product to your current regimen. Tolerability can be greatly improved by starting with just 1 (or) 2 capsules a day and increasing by just 1 capsule every couple of days — this method may take a full two weeks to achieve the desired serving size of 6 capsules per day.

For customers that are highly sensitive to supplements and/or have an autoimmune and/or methylation SNPs, I suggest that you "play it safe" by introducing just one new capsule per week. In other words, just 1 capsule during the 1st week... 2 capsules during the 2nd week... 3 capsules during the 3rd week and so on... yes, this will take some time to reach the suggested dosages but this greatly helps to ensure tolerability of this deep nourishment so that it has a chance to do good.

Ancestral Wisdom Backed By Science [Nutrition]

Fish eggs contain all of the bio-available vitamins and minerals your body needs to support optimal health. This ancestral superfood is especially rich in vitamins A, D, E, K2, zinc, iodine, choline, and phospholipid omega 3's. These essential nutrients all work synergistically with each other in harmony with nature, and in harmony with the wisdom of our ancestors.

Vitamin D
It is no wonder fish roe was so highly prized by isolated natives. According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, a single tablespoon of fish roe contains approximately 17,000 IU of Vitamin D! This means that one tablespoon of fish eggs supplies even more Vitamin D than a midday dose of daily sunshine! This is the Vitamin D boost that the Inuit and traditional mountain-dwelling tribes of South America used when sunlight was not a readily available option.

For pregnant women and women planning to become pregnant, vitamin D is of particular importance as it helps to mitigate glucose regulation, develop healthy bones and it even helps to tone the uterus – helping the uterus to contract properly during labor. For women suffering from polycystic ovarian disease, vitamin D is helpful as it offers beneficial effects on insulin resistance. A low-glycemic diet rich in these critical nutrients is also essential for improving fertility in both men and women. (13)

Many health experts argue that the seasonal flu is really just a Vitamin D deficiency. By some estimates, over 90% of Americans are deficient in this critical nutrient. About 75% of people with IBS have insufficient vitamin D, and about 70% see improvement when supplementing with Vitamin D. Get your daily dose of midday sunshine and enjoy vitamin D rich foods like Wild Caught Fish Eggs with, pastured animal fats and raw Grass Fed dairy.

K2-MK4 (Activator X)
Wild Caught Fish Eggs is rich in Vitamin K2. Price discovered that Activator X (now known as K2), seemed to be responsible for normal bone formation, overall skeletal health, cognitive function, healthy cavity-free teeth, reproductive capabilities, and protection against arterial calcification. K2 is one of the fat-soluble activators, a super nutrient that enables our bodies to absorb and utilize all of the minerals from the foods we eat.

"It is possible to starve for minerals that are abundant in the foods eaten because they cannot be utilized without an adequate quantity of the fat-soluble activators.” - Weston A. Price.

There are two major forms of Vitamin K2 — MK-4 and MK-7. MK-4 is derived from animal sources, such as fish eggs, pastured chicken eggs, Grass Fed dairy (butterfats), meat, and in particular organ meat, such as liver. MK-7 is derived from fermented foods like sauerkraut, hard cheeses, and kefir.

Vitamin K2 is an essential ingredient to include in your diet if you're interested in decalcifying your pineal gland. K2 deconstructs calcium phosphate deposits of the pineal gland and ushers the released calcium back into the bones, where it belongs.

Bone marrow, organ meats, and wild-caught fish eggs are all abundant in vitamin K2 (the MK-4 variety). While smashing bones and sucking out marrowfat was the hard way our ancestors obtained vitamin K, it's not that difficult to obtain marrow bones and either oven roast 3" pieces or slow cook them to make them extra delicious/nutritious... or consider getting our Bone Marrow on board!

Vitamin A
Vitamin A (retinol) is one of several fat-soluble activators necessary for the assimilation of minerals in the diet. Its many functions include forming and maintaining healthy teeth, skin, mucous membranes, skeletal and soft tissues. It also plays a role in protein utilization. The majority of nutrition experts insist that humans can transform carotenes from fruits and vegetables to vitamin A. This is only conditionally true and is highly inefficient. Infants, diabetics, and those with poor thyroid function or zinc deficiency, (a group that makes up nearly half the US population) don’t make the conversion. And as for the rest of us… excessive consumption of alcohol, nonheme iron, prescription drugs, polyunsaturated fats, and even cold weather can hinder the conversion of carotenes to vitamin A. (4) Wild Caught Fish Eggs is a good source of pre-formed, bio-available Vitamin A.

Choline
Choline plays a key role in lipid transport, cell membrane structural support, and neurotransmission. This essential nutrient improves adult hippocampal and cerebral neurogenesis, increases BDNF, and improves cognitive performance on memory tasks.

Choline is of particular importance in the diets of parents planning to conceive, pregnant/lactating women, and young children. It plays a crucial role in placental development and exponential fetal organ growth. Choline supports tooth development, as well as brain development, and significantly decreases the chances of cognitive dysfunction. (5)

Zinc
Zinc is an essential trace mineral, or "helper molecule", that plays a vital role in delivering Vitamin A from the liver to other soft tissues throughout the body. Zinc, like many other nutrients, is best absorbed from animal food sources, and it is particularly essential for the reproductive health of men and women. Low zinc levels often indicate infertility.

Consuming adequate amounts of zinc improves sperm quality in infertile men and pregnant women with higher levels of zinc are able to better moderate stress and are less likely to suffer from symptoms of depression. Zinc has been shown to support proper fetal development, cognitive health, and improve immunity. (14)

The most abundant whole food sources of zinc you can find are Wild Caught Fish Eggs, Grass Fed Beef Eye, wild and pastured animal meats, wild-caught shellfish, raw dairy, and pastured egg yolks... all the basic constitutes of a primal/ancestral diet.

Iodine
Wild Caught Fish Eggs is a whole food source of iodine. Iodine is an essential trace mineral that is only naturally sourced from marine life or grown in iodine rich soil. Other foods high in iodine are either directly fortified, or are sourced from animals that are fed supplemental iodine.

Iodine is an essential component of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4. These hormones regulate the metabolic activities of most cells, blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature. Iodine plays a vital role in our immune system, detoxification pathways and also supports the process of early growth and development of most organs, especially the brain. (6)

As it relates to iodine supplemental drops, I’d steer clear. Our ancestors would have never had access to such concentrations of iodine and the long term effects of concentrated iodine can be toxic. I suggest getting Iodine from whole food sources, such as Wild Caught Fish Eggs, wild-caught lean fish (such as cod), and seaweed.

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs)
Hoki roe is a source of glycosaminoglycans, also referred to as the “glue of life”. GAGs play a vital role in the health of cartilage, tendons, skin and connective tissue. As we age, we lose precious GAGs and our cartilage becomes drier, thinner and more brittle. The GAGs found in our Wild Caught Fish Eggs help us to regain the elasticity within our connective tissue and maintain supple, healthy joints. (15)

Phospholipid OMEGA-3: DHA, EPA, & ETA
Wild caught fish eggs contain omega-3s (DHA, EPA, & ETA) in the form of phospholipids. Phospholipids are the most effective carriers to deliver these fatty acids into our cells. The phospholipid complex and omega-3 fatty acids function in perfect biochemical harmony to allow the fatty acid molecules to pass directly through cell membranes, including the intestinal wall and the blood-brain barrier. Phospholipids provide the nutritional building blocks for cell membranes, regulate cellular transport by functioning as “gate-keepers” and help protect cell membranes from free radicals.

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in every cell of your body and help regulate biological functions, including those of the cardiovascular, reproductive, immune, and nervous systems. They have unique structural properties that provide optimal conditions for a wide range of cell membrane functions. These essential fats are anti-inflammatory by nature and replenish the moisture in our cartilage, which eases discomfort and promotes joint mobility. (2)

DHA:
DHA is the primary structural fatty acid in the gray matter of the brain. It is essential for early brain development, and a necessary nutrient for optimal heart, eye, immune, and metabolic health throughout life. Many studies have been conducted that show DHA supplementation during every stage of pregnancy and early childhood has led to smarter, more attentive children, with higher test scores, and better vision. (7,8)

The rudimentary source of DHA is marine algae; therefore it is found concentrated in fish, fish eggs, and marine oils. While some nutritionists may insist that humans can transform plant sources of ALA into DHA from foods such as flax, chia or green leafy vegetables, this is only conditionally true and is highly inefficient. While the cells of plants, like algae, are photosynthetic, our mammalian cells do not contain the enzymes necessary for the de novo synthesis of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is the precursor for the synthesis of all omega-3 fatty acids. Endogenous synthesis of DHA from ALA in humans is much lower and more limited than previously assumed. Most clinically proven benefits for omega 3 actually come down to DHA, which makes DHA a crucial nutrient to get in our diet as our body cannot produce it on its own. (5)

EPA:
A common assumption is that EPA may not be that important for neurological function because the levels of EPA in the brain aren't very high. However, EPA reduces neuro-inflammation by competing against arachidonic acid (omega-6) for access to the same enzymes needed to produce inflammatory eicosanoids. In other words, EPA prevents inflammation by inhibiting synthesis of the molecules responsible for inflammation in the first place. When we consume adequate amounts of EPA, we are able to reduce and prevent cellular inflammation in the brain eliminating depression, ADHD, brain trauma, etc. (9)

ETA:
ETA (eicosatetraenoic acid) is a unique omega-3 that functions as a potent anti-inflammatory that has been shown to support joint health, through the regeneration of damaged cartilage and synovial fluid.

ETA has only recently been studied and recognized for its health benefits. It is indicated that ETA can limit our body’s production of the omega-6 fatty acid arachidonic acid (ARA) by redirecting the enzyme that normally creates ARA and convert it to EPA instead.

This lesser-known omega-3 is found in fish roe and can actually help to reduce gastrointestinal irritation associated with long-term ingestion of some NSAIDs. (2)

Suggested Supplements (3)

If you're going to pick just one ancestral supplement to start with, make it our GRASS FED BEEF LIVER... unless you need targeted support with another specific organ system (see below). If you are going to pick two supplements, our GRASS FED BEEF LIVER and our GRASS FED BEEF ORGANS provide complementary and synergistic nourishment. If you can add a third supplement, GRASS FED BONE MARROW fills fat soluble nutrition gaps, provides stem cells, bovine cartilage, glycosaminoglycans and the fat-soluble activators that nutrition giant Dr. Weston Price extensively wrote about.

  • Grass Fed Beef Liver
  • Grass Fed Beef Organs (liver, heart, kidney, pancreas, spleen)
  • Grass Fed Bone Marrow

On the other hand, if you're looking for targeted organ support, you may be interested in our GRASS FED TALLOW to support hormone health (or) our GRASS FED THYROID to support a struggling thyroid (or) our GRASS FED THYMUS to support thymus function and immune health... you get the picture. We have a like-supports-like nutrition product line that can be found on our "Products" page. If you can't find what you're looking for (or) you're not sure what you're looking for, send us an email and we'll do everything we can to help.

Consider the Source

New Zealand seems like it was made for raising healthy animals. Its location and climate produce pristine conditions for cattle, sheep, and fish. The farmers and fishers have uncanny expertise handed down for generations. New Zealand is unique among meat-producing regions in the world because its climate is moderate so the grass in the pastures grows fresh and grows green year-round which means the cows and sheep can eat the food that’s healthiest for them every day of the year.

Our like-supports-like nutrition product line is always from Grass Fed, inspected animals born and raised without the use of pesticides, hormones or antibiotics. Health of livestock used for manufacturing in New Zealand is closely monitored by a world-leading biosecurity system that is second to none, and is a global exemplar. Strict government licensing, auditing and certification procedures mean that our genuine New Zealand freeze-dried products can be used with complete confidence in their origin, safety and efficacy. Freeze-drying preserves the heat-sensitive vitamins, minerals and co-factors of components leaving the nutrients in the same balance as found in nature.

We care deeply about each and every aspect of our "seed to supplement" way of life... great love and gratitude goes out to the souls of our animal brethren, such beautiful creatures that were sacrificed so that we could be nourished.

Our product line is 100% additive-free. Absolutely no stearates, lubricants, binders, fillers or flow agents... except with our Bone Marrow (see Other Ingredients).

High-Quality Organs & Glands

Okay, you're convinced! You're going to start incorporating like-supports-like nourishment in your routine because, well... you're educated now... you understand, just as our early ancestors did, that they provide superlative health benefits that are missing in our modern diets. The next step is sourcing it. It's important that you source the highest quality because not all organs, glands and cartilage are created equal. Consider the source.

  • Should Come from An Unpolluted Geographical Region — Isolated, Healthy, Pristine Lands and Waters
  • Should Come from Pasture Raised or Wild Caught Animals
  • Should Come from Grass Fed & Grass-Finished Animals
  • Should Come from Animals That Are Hormone, Pesticide & GMO-free
  • Should Also Be Ultra-Pure... Absolutely No Fillers (or) Flow Agents, No Allergens
  • Should Be Non-Defatted
  • Should Be 100% Freeze-dried... Freeze Drying Preserves Heat Sensitive Biological Activity.

We Evolved Eating All Parts Of The Animal (Including Like-supports-like nutrition)

Throughout many cultures, fish eggs, also known as fish roe or caviar, have been honored as a sacred food that provides us with all of the nutritional building blocks we need to support our elegant mammalian physiology. Our ancestors knew that fish eggs made us healthy, smart and strong. Even the name caviar came from the Persian word “châv-jâr” which means “cake of strength and power.”

Fish roe was highly prized by the natives of South America who would sometimes travel for weeks from their mountain villages down to the sea to gather eggs, dry them, and carry them back home, to their tribe. This superfood was provided to women of childbearing age to ensure adequate nourishment thus ensuring healthy, robust babies and children. In these times, there was no need for a prenatal vitamin...in the modern world, we have lost this native wisdom.

The Inuit also consumed roe from a variety of fish species, particularly salmon. Fish eggs were sun-dried and stored for consumption throughout the year. Modern-day Alaskan natives still pass down this wisdom to their children. Salmon eggs are among the first foods the Tlingit mothers feed their infants, beginning at eight or nine months of age. Tlingit elders say this practice provides their growing children with the necessary nutrition for optimal development and also prepares the child's palate for a life-long love of seafood! We are now part of a world where we encourage picky eating and supply our children with brightly packaged sugary snacks that set them up for a life of poor dental health, metabolic disorders, and cognitive dysfunction. Can you imagine what the world would be like if we just listened to the wise words of our elders?

“In many of the primitive tribes living by the sea, we found emphasis on the value of fish eggs… for ensuring a high physical development of growing children... through reinforcement of their mother's nutrition.” -Dr. Weston A. Price.

Whole food, nutrient-dense organs, glands, and fish eggs can provide great benefit for those seeking fundamental support in harmony with nature — the old-fashioned way, the way that our early ancestors did. Wild Caught Fish Eggs is a whole food dietary supplement that contains pure wild-caught New Zealand-sourced Hoki roe. These nutrient-dense foods are rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K2, essential fatty acids DHA, EPA, and ETA, as well as peptides, cofactors and enzymes that nourish and support our whole body especially our brain, heart, and reproductive health.

Not only our ancestors were aware of this sacred food... our animal brethren, bears, go straight for the roe. Every year, at the end of summer, grizzly bears in Alaska wait for spawning salmon to return in their thousands. There are so many salmon that once the bears have their fill of protein, they are often seen dragging salmon to shore and pressing on the bellies to extrude the eggs. After they indulge in natures nourishing egg vending machine, they continue to strip off the salmon's skin and crunch the top half of the skull for the brain, leaving the rest for the birds.

The Fish Oil / Cod Liver Oil Discussion...

As it relates to fish oil or cod liver oil (CLO), I try to view everything through an ancestral lens. I do not believe this is a "food" that would have been available to our early ancestors. Our ancestors would've eaten the whole cod... or the cod's liver... but not a processed oil that delivers a concentrated dose of vitamins and nutrients that are not found in nature.

I'd prefer to eat the whole fish, or the whole fish egg... or both! Here's why... the presence of other nutrients in the whole fish activates the processes required to absorb EPA and DHA properly. In other words, EPA and DHA are better absorbed from eating whole fish and fish eggs than from taking fish oil. In one study comparing the effects of fish and fish oil, researchers found that levels of DHA after 6 weeks of whole fish consumption were nine times higher than after fish oil administration.

In the modern world, we have been led to believe that fish oil is our best source of DHA and EPA... however, this isn't entirely true. We can more effectively absorb and assimilate the nutrients from these ancestral foods when they are consumed in their whole food form, such as in Wild Caught Fish Eggs. Standard fish oils lack the phospholipid complex that carries EPA and DHA through the cell membranes into the cells. Instead, standard fish oils only contain omega-3 fatty acids in the less-beneficial forms of ethyl esters or triglycerides.

Processed fish oils are often contaminated with mercury and other toxic heavy metals. They are naturally low in antioxidants which makes them highly susceptible to spoilage and they can go rancid quickly. Rancid, or oxidized, oil is one of your body’s worst enemies. It can ignite inflammation and put your organ and cellular health at risk, especially your soft tissues, including the brain.

Fish eggs naturally contain astaxanthin, a potent antioxidant. Astaxanthin helps maintain stability and resistance to oxidation. Wild-caught Hoki fish eggs aren't prone to contamination from mercury and heavy metals because Hoki is low on the food chain and it lives in the pure waters of New Zealand. I don't condemn fish oils... they just don't fit my beliefs. I’m convinced there’s a much better way to get your omega-3 fats. Aside from eating wild-caught fatty fish, Wild-Caught Fish Eggs is a great way to get the essential omega-3 fats DHA, EPA, and ETA.

The Ultimate Ancestral Guide To Fertility

In stark contrast to the fertility issues of overabundance in today’s world, the biggest issue for our ancestors was a lack of food and lack of body fat, coupled with too much activity. The body has finite resources, and it can’t spend them on reproduction if it thinks you are starving.

The renowned scientist Bruce Ames put forth the Triage Theory to explain this phenomenon. Essentially, short-term survival is favored over long-term health and reproduction when there is a shortage of nutrients. If you aren’t getting enough fat-soluble vitamins and minerals, as could easily happen in our ancestors’ unpredictable times, then what you do get will go towards keeping you alive, not towards fertility.

This resulted in many cultures valuing certain foods for fertility, consuming them in preparation for pregnancy. Both men and women took part — these foods were non-negotiable additions to the diet to purify the body and prepare the womb.

Weston A. Price knew early on that they were rich in mineral and fat-soluble vitamins (called fat-soluble activators at the time):

“One of the serious human deficiencies is the inability to synthesize certain of the activators which include the known vitamins… I have shown that the primitive races studied were dependent upon one of three sources for some of these fat-soluble factors, namely, seafoods, organs of animals, or dairy products. These are all of animal origin.”

Fish eggs, shellfish, and fatty fish are rich in several fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, and essential fats. These foods were staples among the Inuit of Alaska, the Maori in New Zealand, the islanders of Northern Australia, and the native tribes in the various archipelagos of the South Pacific. Even our Native American ancestors would go to great lengths to obtain fish eggs, be it through trade or their own accords:

“It was, accordingly, a matter of great interest to discover that these Indians used regularly dried fish eggs from the sea… When I inquired of them why they used this material they explained that it was necessary to maintain the fertility of their women. I was informed also that every exchange depot and market carried these dried fish eggs so that they were always available.”

Organ meats were consumed in virtually every indigenous culture. Liver, especially, is known as nature’s multivitamin and the most nutrient-dense food on the planet. In fact, our Native American ancestors would commonly favor organ meats over muscle meat, feeding that to their dogs.

“I found the Indians putting great emphasis upon the eating of the organs of the animals, including the wall of parts of the digestive tract. Much of the muscle meat of the animals was fed to the dogs.”

Among the organ meats, thyroid gland was especially important for fertility. Our ancestors living far North would gorge on moose thyroid glands during winter months and have most of the children born during summer months as a result. Perhaps we can learn something from them about the importance of thyroid health for reproduction.

“For the Indians of the far North [fertility] reinforcement was accomplished by supplying special feedings of organs of animals. Among the Indians in the moose country near the Arctic circle, a larger percentage of the children were born in June than in any other month. This was accomplished, I was told, by both parents eating liberally of the thyroid glands of the male moose as they came down from the high mountain areas for the mating season, at which time the large protuberances carrying the thyroids under the throat were greatly enlarged.”

Raw dairy products like fresh milk, cream, and butter were regularly eaten among cultures that herded mammals. This includes the Swiss in the high Alps, the Arabs (using camel's milk), and the Asiatic races (using milk of sheep and musk ox). The best butter comes from cows eating rapidly growing green grass in the spring and fall.

“I have referred to the importance of a high vitamin butter for providing the fat-soluble activators to make possible the utilization of the minerals in the foods. In this connection, it is of interest that butter constitutes the principal source of these essential factors for many primitive groups throughout the world.”

Eggs and bone marrow were consumed opportunistically among those tribes that had access. After all, not all of our ancestors regularly hunted big game or scavenged for eggs. But when these foods were available, our ancestors made sure to stock up.

“It is important that skeletons are rarely found where large game animals have been slaughtered by the Indians of the North. The skeletal remains are found as piles of finely broken bone chips or splinters that have been cracked up to obtain as much as possible of the marrow and nutritive qualities of the bones.”

Liver - The Ultimate Superfood

Whether from Grass Fed beef, bison, or lamb, grass fed liver is one of the most nutrient-dense, health-promoting foods you could possibly eat. Hunters all over the world, for uncounted thousands of years, would eat the raw livers of the animals they killed. Lions and other predatory animals will also eat the liver first. Grass fed liver is particularly rich in vitamin B12, vitamin A, choline, folate and many other powerful nutrients that most people are deficient in. Grass fed liver also contains compounds that help the human liver function better. Other substances in liver increase energy, improve hormone health and support brain function.

Many people look to targeted support "like heals like" while neglecting the very fundamental nourishment that governs our biology, health and well-being. It's no wonder that so many people successfully support organ and glandular-related health conditions (thyroid, adrenal and gut included) by just nourishing their bodies with the fundamentals — Liver and Bone Marrow.
